Emphasize Nondrug Strategies After a Concussion

You’ll need to triage questions about managing concussions...due to sports injuries, falls, motor vehicle accidents, etc.

We know to send patients to the ED if head trauma results in alarm signs (loss of consciousness, seizures, repeated vomiting, etc). And have a low threshold for ED evaluation in patients on an antithrombotic.

Otherwise, promptly evaluate patients by telehealth or in person. Look for key symptoms...such as balance issues, headache, or memory problems. These may develop hours to days after the event.
