Another quinolone antibiotic, Levaquin (levofloxacin)
Ortho-McNeil is introducing another quinolone antibiotic, Levaquin (levofloxacin).
It's not really "new"...it's the levo isomer of ofloxacin. Ofloxacin (Floxin) consists of both the levo and dextro isomers.
The levo isomer is responsible for the antibacterial effect. This means it only takes HALF the dose of Levaquin to work as well as Floxin. Higher doses of Levaquin seem to enhance activity even more.
