Some experts are now recommending HIGHER doses of Bactrim or Septra for certain skin infections... specifically infections that are likely to be due to methicillin-resistant Staph aureus (MRSA).
These resistant bugs used to be mainly hospital-acquired. Now many are COMMUNITY-acquired.
Community-acquired MRSA skin infections are usually treated with TMP/SMX, minocycline, doxycycline, or clindamycin.
