New guidelines from the American Heart Association clarify how to reduce the risk of ischemic stroke

New guidelines from the American Heart Association clarify how to reduce the risk of ischemic stroke...in patients who've already had a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA).

Antiplatelet drugs. Recommend using aspirin 50-325 mg/day... Plavix (clopidogrel)...OR Aggrenox (dipyridamole/aspirin).

Don't recommend COMBINING Plavix and aspirin solely to prevent stroke. The combo isn't more effective and increases bleeding risk.
