Don't be surprised to see oncologists using ketoconazole (Nizoral) for prostate cancer.
High doses of ketoconazole (400 mg TID) inhibit testosterone production. Physicians are using it in resistant cases...along with traditional chemo drugs such as doxorubicin (Adriamycin).
Tell patients that preliminary studies show some benefit. Warn them that ketoconazole can cause GI upset...recommend they take it with food.
