The FDA just approved giving Tripedia, one of the ACELLULAR pertussis vaccines, to INFANTS. Others will be approved soon.

This is a major advance...the acellular vaccine causes significantly fewer side effects for thousands of children. Less tenderness...swelling...fever...crying. And it's too soon to tell, but there may also be fewer cases of seizures.

Until now, babies have been getting the whole cell pertussis as part of the DTP vaccine. Acellular pertussis vaccines (DTaP) initially came out only for booster shots for children over 1 year.
